Victoria has opened its 2025–2026 skilled migration program with 380 interim visa places, pending confirmation of the state’s full allocation from the Australian Government’s Department of Home Affairs.
The Department of Home Affairs has granted Victoria 200 places for the Skilled Nominated visa (subclass 190) and 180 places for the Skilled Work Regional (Provisional) visa (subclass 491). Officials expect the final allocation for the program year to be announced in the coming weeks.
The subclass 190 visa provides permanent residency for skilled workers who choose to live and work in Victoria, while the subclass 491 visa offers a provisional pathway to permanent residency for those settling in regional parts of the state.
Active Registrations of Interest (ROIs) submitted in the previous program year will remain valid for assessment under the 2025–2026 intake. Applicants are only required to lodge a new ROI if their personal or professional circumstances have changed.
For new applicants, the process requires meeting current eligibility rules, submitting an Expression of Interest through the federal SkillSelect system, and completing an ROI via Victoria’s Live in Melbourne portal.
The state government has advised that comprehensive details of the program, including the final number of places, will be published once the Department of Home Affairs confirms Victoria’s full allocation.
