The Department of Home Affairs has expanded the Australian Immi App to 47 countries, allowing more visa applicants to submit biometric information remotely and avoid in-person appointments.
On 24 March 2026, the Department of Home Affairs added 13 countries to the Offshore Biometric Collection Program, extending access to the mobile-based visa processing tool. Applicants in Albania, Bhutan, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Cambodia, Eswatini, Ethiopia, Ghana, Lesotho, Nepal, Somalia (for third-country nationals), Sri Lanka, Uganda and Zimbabwe can now use the app.
The app lets eligible users upload facial biometrics and passport details directly from their smartphones. By doing so, it reduces the need for applicants to visit biometric collection centres, especially in areas with limited access to such facilities. To qualify, applicants must have previously submitted their biometrics, such as fingerprints and a facial image, to the Department of Home Affairs and must hold a valid passport.
The Department of Home Affairs launched the Australian Immi App in the Pacific region on 26 September 2024 and has expanded it progressively. Officials report strong uptake and positive user feedback, which has supported further rollout. The Department of Home Affairs plans to expand the app across Europe, Sub-Saharan Africa, and parts of South and Southeast Asia throughout 2026 as it continues to modernise and simplify Australia’s visa system.
